When Depression Is Quiet

Not everyone who might benefit from depression therapy in Austin feels sad in an obvious way. Sometimes it is quieter than that. It can look like flatness: moving through a full week and feeling little about any of it. Interests that once mattered start to feel like chores. Conversations take more effort. You keep functioning, and people around you may never notice, yet the color has drained out of things.
As some people put it, "I'm successful and functioning, but I'm not happy." A gentle place to begin is to notice, without judgment, one moment each day that felt even slightly alive. A walk, a song, a good coffee. Write it down. This is not about forcing gratitude. It is about gathering information on what still reaches you.
If low mood has lasted for weeks, or is getting in the way of work, sleep or relationships, it is worth speaking with a licensed professional. If you ever have thoughts of harming yourself, please call or text 988, or call 911. I am not a crisis service.
I offer individual psychotherapy online for adults in Texas. You can read more about anxiety and depression on my website.
